Multidisciplinary and systemic objectives
The challenges of sequestering soil carbon
Foster soil carbon in agriculture of soil
- We know that :
- - Soil organic matter dynamic is a crucial component of soil functions providing ecosystem services
- - Soil carbon sequestration could produce negative emission contributing to climate change mitigation
- But constraints to increase soil carbon are multiple :
- - Soil degradation, water and nutrients availability limit primary production and consequently soil organic matter building
- - The soil carbon sinks has a finite capacity
- - Land use and soil management reduce the residence time of sequestered C
- - The social and economic contexts drive agricultural activities
